Walking into a long, narrow living room in a contemporary townhouse in Eddington, Cambridge, you immediately notice how much character a carefully designed space can have. This room was designed by AZ Interiors Studio in Cambridge. This isn’t just a living room, it’s a sanctuary, a place where calm, elegance, and practical luxury coexist seamlessly.

In this project, the magic came from blending designer furniture with original artworks, a natural colour palette, and architectural touches like moulding. Every element was chosen not just to look beautiful, but to create a timeless, lived-in luxury.

Designer Pieces That Elevate Everyday Life

We love working with furniture that does more than fill a room. BoConcept sofas, armchairs, and ottomans give clean lines and modern luxury, while bespoke displays and TV units introduce a sculptural quality with soft curves.

By pairing these pieces with original paintings on large canvases, the living room gains personality and story. Large-scale paintings create focal points and bring depth to the neutral, natural palette. The colours in the artwork are echoed subtly in the fabrics and rugs, creating harmony and a feeling of effortless elegance.

Calm, Natural Palette for Timeless Luxury

The walls, painted in Farrow & Ball, Pointing No.2003, provide a soft, warm backdrop that lets the furniture and art shine. Luxurious textures like wool rugs, textured curtains, and layered fabrics add depth, while the natural palette keeps the room feeling serene and inviting.

We wanted the living room to feel luxurious but approachable, combining elegance with comfort. Soft, warm tones, layered textures, and carefully considered materials create a space that feels welcoming and timeless.

Architectural Details That Add Sophistication

One of the standout features is the use of moulding, which transforms the walls from plain surfaces into architectural statements. On a new-build, these details bring texture, depth, and refinement without overwhelming the space. Although it requires an expert eye to make it right.

High ceilings play a key role, too. They give the room a sense of grandeur, making the panelling feel proportional and enhancing the luxurious, open atmosphere. It’s a subtle trick, but one that instantly elevates the sense of sophistication.

Lighting was chosen as part of the storytelling of the room. Mother-of-pearl chandeliers add a delicate, sensory touch, tinkling gently when the breeze moves the windows ,while the floor lamp and side tables support a calm, intimate environment. These finishing touches help the room feel curated, luxurious, and deeply personal.
